Vintage Ibanez Guitar Catalogs – 1971 through 2007

Today we are looking at a lovely s vintage Ibanez guitar. And from the pictures you can see why: A good copy, with one major cost-cutting difference: Other than that, this Ibanez is spot-on. It has a mahogany body and a maple top, finished in its original gorgeous cherryburst, with full body and neck binding. The front has only a couple of very tiny surface scratches. The back of the guitar is also in great condition with minimal worming and surface nicks. The binding and edges are in great shape. The neck is a dream to me.

Best Jump on these while they are still here and available!! The values have drifted a little measure about. In fact, I have sold over a dozen or so of these over the past year and these examples are by far the cleanest I have seen in a long time!!

Like the GR, there are three versions of the G and G guitars, distinguished by changes to the PC board. I was contacted by a G player in the States and a G player in Norway both using the first run, early “prerelease” version of the guitar electronics.

F is the production factory which stands for Fujigen. The first digit will be the last digit of the year, ie. The last 5 numbers will be the consecutive number denoting production count for the year with the caveat that each month will start at predetermined intervals of or , etc. Presently it is set at These serial numbers are usually quite different from the MIJ numbers, have many extra digits because of the enormous volume of guitars produced, and I am not familiar enough with any of them to tell you how to figure out the dating.

Cort Serial Numbers – Cort serial numbers are denoted with a C prefix followed by either 7 or 8 digits. I’m not sure what year the changeover occurred but using the formula it will be easy for you to tell.

The Guitar Dater Project

Hoshino Gakki decided in to make Spanish-style acoustic guitars , at first using the “Ibanez Salvador” brand name, and later simply “Ibanez. This resulted in the so-called lawsuit period. During this period, Ibanez produced guitars under the Mann name to avoid authorities in the United States and Canada. The company has produced its own guitar designs ever since.

With Ibanez one of the MEGA makers Im guessing that their serial numbering will also not be a dating system, especially with multi intruments and at least half a dozen different countrys making their instruments (they dont make anything).

It’s the Ibanez Roadstar Series II RS , serial number J and I have it in the all black finish, with matching headstock and the trick red piping around the guitar’s body. This particular one was made in October of The ‘J’ in the serial number is the 10th letter of the alphabet, and denotes the month of manufacture, while the first two numbers 84 denote the year. This was the th guitar of this specific ‘RS’ model to be made that year. Care to guess how many are left in this condition excellent, relatively speaking after over 26 years?

To supplement the sound and tonal variety available, Ibanez outfitted the RS it was only available in and with “push-push” coil tapping. The company named the system ‘Duo Sound,’and in addition to the two 2 volume knobs, the RS also featured a single tone knob and a 3-way selector switch. Truly, it’s a versatile instrument. Specific features and specifications include: All fret edges are smooth, and the action on this guitar is super low, with intonation spot-on.

But is it too good to be true? When this guitar arrived, I wanted to get the first go of it to get my views about the whole china syndrome of guitars so i could get this relayed to the guys most vulnerable and the ones who could least afford to buy a dog – i. Where do I start – well, when I tried to connect a cable is a good start – on the genuine one, you simply plug in a cable and off you go. Not so on this cheap copy – in fact, with the guitar on a guitar strap a good place you CANNOT fit the guitar cable – it fouls on the strap.

So if you only ever sit down without a strap that is good for you, unfortunately the other 99 zillion guys don’t do that – so it’s time for the drill – to drill out the cable entrance properly in the right place No problem – send it back! So I sat down on the chair and got the cable installed.

Guitar Gopher is a guitarist and bassist with over 30 years of experience as a musician. These are some of the most respected brands in the world, and they not only make high-end guitars for professionals, but moderately priced models for us working folks. The point of this article is to help you figure out which acoustic-electric guitar is best of you, your budget and your needs.

All I can do is offer recommendations, but after three decades of playing I have a pretty good idea of what’s worth it, and what you ought to stay away from. There are a lot of guitars in this price range, and it can be tough sorting through them all. Really, you have two issues to consider: You want a great acoustic guitar that sounds outstanding on its own.

Fernandes Burny Here’s a quick way to tell if you have a Matsumoku factory guitar whether branded or not. That’s a dead giveaway that you’ve got one of “Uncle Matt’s” guitars. As I said above, Fujigen and the other manufacturers produced guitars with no logos at all for sale around the world. That in itself shouldn’t cause much confusion, because we know from Hoshino that “if it doesn’t say Ibanez” it’s not an Ibanez.

However, Fujigen Gakki, the manufacturer of Ibanez-branded guitars would provide stock, no-name images to Hoshino and other distributors for use in their catalogs. Fujigen only had to take one picture of a guitar instead of one with each different brand on it.

The Big Confusion. It’s this intricate relationship between distributor (Hoshino), brand (Ibanez) and factory (Fujigen) which makes for much of the initial confusion surrounding MIJ guitars and their origins.

About Guitars Buying a new guitar is a considerable investment for most of us. An instrument is all about inspiration. You are the musician and the guitar is the tool you use to express your feelings and music. This has nothing to do with what models you choose or how much they cost. Some basic knowledge about the different wood types, neck and body profiles, pickups etc will help you in making the best choice.

However, over the last decade or so, the MIMs has gotten a considerable face lift and the overall quality is very high. In fact, the reason why they are cheaper, ha sless to do with quality but rather lower labour costs, cheaper type of laquer and apply methods etc.

In the second half of the 20th century, however, accordion sales were declining; but Hagstrom were there at the beginning of the new guitar boom, producing their first electric, the Hagstrom De Luxe in By this time, Albin had died later to be replaced by his son Karl-Erik , but the companys many years experience of accordion manufacture massively influenced the early guitars, with the use of pearloid sparkle finishes and a preference for push-switches over potentiometers more widely used in American guitars.

Over the next two decades, Hagstrom produced a number of interesting and commercially sucessful guitars, many with a nod towards better known American designs, but some quite unique. One important innovation by Hagstrom, and arguably one of the key reasons for their sucess, was the low-action “fastest playing neck in the world” produced by their patented H-shaped “expander-stretcher” truss rod rail. In the early sixties, Hagstrom produced a number of solid bodies that were distributed by different companies worldwide, often given alternate model names and even different brands; for example Hershman in the US labelled some Hagstrom guitars as Goya , whilst Selmer in the UK used the marque Futurama.

Guitars like the Corvette and Impala helped cemment Hagstrom’s reputation as a quality builder, and by alternate branding was no longer necessary. In the latter half of the decade solid bodies were selling well, particularly the Hagstrom II and III, as were the semi-acoustic Viking , finally appearing in the hands of Elvis Presley in Hagstrom guitars of the s did conform somewhat to an establishing consensus admittedly Gibson’s of what a guitar should be..

But this was largely beneficial, the Les Paul-style Swede was, and still is, a very highly regarded guitar, perhaps the pinnacle of vintage Hagstrom guitars.
